Moi – Argh, I’m so sick of all these people believing that I’m french! No, I haven’t got a french passport, No my grand parents are not french. Is it so hard to understand that there could be some people speaking french on the other side of the ocean! I need to do some more cultural activities with my pupil so that at least them stop asking me from which part of France I’m from!
Coloc (très compréhensive devant mon sursaut d’humeur) – Why don’t you cook them something from Québec? It would be a great way to introduce them to your culture.
Moi – Can’t. Health and Safety. I wanted to bring them food, but I can’t : Health and Safety. I wanted to make them cook : Health and Safety. I wanted to play real hockey : Health and Safety. I can’t do anything with them apart from talking. And, even, I must take care not to touch them, it could be considered as sexual harassment. Grm!

Ce dialogue plein de frustration nous introduit à un concept très écossais : Health and Safety. Idée générale : tout ce qui est public est régulé par le council qui lui décide des règles de sécurité. Et elles sont nombreuses. Et frustrantes.
(Je ne suis d’ailleurs pas la seule à penser ça, preuve étant cette librairie usagée d’Édimbourg dont les murs étaient couverts d’avertissements concernant la sécurité (« peut être dangereux en cas d’explosion nucléaire ») directement inspirés des mesures extrémistes du council.)
